E. Jean's Story
E. Jean Smead, 83, formerly of Milton, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2016, at the Phoebe Home in Allentown. She was the last of her family of 10 children.
A native of Lycoming County, she was born April 23, 1933, in Williamsport, a daughter of the late Kester and Emma (Mowrey) Nash. She was married to Robert C. Smead who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1992, breaking a marital union of 40 years.
Jean was of the Lutheran faith, and enjoyed sewing, ceramics, camping at Hidden Valley, caring for many children by serving as a foster parent for 27 years, and enjoying her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Debi Pettit, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Randy Smead, of Butler, Patti Davidson, of Fogelsville, and Jeanna Schutt, of Milton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
Friends and relatives will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, followed by the funeral at noon with the Rev John H. Shaw III officiating.
Burial will follow in the Montandon Cemetery.
