Dorothy R. Markel


Dorothy R. Markel, 89, of Danville, formerly of Kulpmont, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Grandview Health Homes, Danville.
She was born May 25, 1928, in Mount Carmel, a daughter of the late Bertin C. and Mildred M. (Fisher) Fegley. On Dec. 28, 1946, in All Saints Lutheran Church, Kulpmont, she married J. Allen Markel who preceded her in death on March 4, 2000.

Dorothy was educated in Kulpmont Elementary School and was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Kulpmont.
She was a lifelong resident of Kulpmont and was employed at Maue Mills in Shamokin and Elysburg.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kulpmont and was active in several churches her whole life. In her earlier years, Dorothy served as organist for several area churches, most recently the United Methodist Church of Kulpmont.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy R. and John Michaels, of Lewisburg, Carol A. and Larry E. Johnson, of Catawissa, and Janice J. and Robert Melnick, of Lincoln University; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Markel, of Middleburg and Barbara Weikel, of Sunbury.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Irene Fegley who died at 18 months old.

There will not be a viewing. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

If desired, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Kulpmont First United Methodist Church, Spruce and Ninth streets, Kulpmont, PA 17834, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

The C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, is handling the arrangements.
