Doris Georg Martin, 96, of Lewisburg, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at Heritage Springs Memory Care, Lewisburg, where she resided for nearly three years.
She was born July 26, 1921, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Edward and Prudence Georg. In the summer of 1942, she married F. David Martin who preceded her in death in March of 2014, ending 71 years of marriage.
Doris was a 1938 graduate of Johnstown High School.
Doady moved to Lewisburg in 1949 when her husband accepted a faculty position at Bucknell University. Together they raised four children, traveled extensively, and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed volunteering and had many interests and talents including sewing, quilting, and painting. She was kind and generous, always putting the welfare of others before herself and will be remembered most for her love of her family.
She is survived by one son and three daughters, Timothy Martin and his wife, Pamela, of Portland, Ore., Suzanne Reish and her husband, Gale, of Lewisburg, Amy Martin, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Janice Martin and her husband, Toby Chamberlain, of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Lois Tilton, of Lewisburg; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend its thanks to Evangelical Community Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center, and Hospice of Evangelical for their kindness and compassion. A very special thank you to the staff of Heritage Springs who cared so lovingly for Doady in her last years.
A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
