Doris S. Marino, 92, of 415 N. Fourth St., Lewisburg, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 8, 2017, at the Evangelical Community Hospital.
A native of Union County, she was born in Lewisburg on Feb. 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry and Vera (Faust) Strassner. She was married to Dr. Thomas R. Marino for more than 51 years until his death on July 2, 2004.
Doris earned a bachelor of arts degree of science in sociology from Bucknell University.
She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church where she was a member of the choir, Catholic Women's group and was a CCD teacher. She enjoyed gardening, arranging flowers, and yard work, and had been both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was a member of the DAR. After World War II she traveled with a group of Quakers to help rebuild war damage in Europe.
Doris is survived by two children, Julia M. Becker (Wade), of Selinsgrove, and Thomas R. Marino Jr., of Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren, Jonathan E. Becker, of Boston, Corey Marino, of Randolph Va., and Zack Marino, of King George, Va.; and a sister, Nancy Lee Campbell, of Maine.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vera F. Marino in 2007; one sister, Valeida Stanton; and two brothers, Bobby Strassner and Donald Strassner.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Mark Wilke as celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Doris's memory be made to either Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg.
