Dolores Kropa, 73, Northumberland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. ?
She was born June 5, 1944, a daughter of the late Joseph John and Helen Elizabeth (Bolesta) Chwastyk in the Buttonwood section of Hanover Township where she met the love of her life, Fred Kropa.
Dolores was a 1961 graduate of Hanover Memorial High School. She continued her education graduating from Wilkes-Barre City School of Practical Nursing in 1962.
Dolores worked as a licensed practical nurse in Wilkes-Barre and Sunbury for 38 years, retiring in 1999 from Manor Care in Northumberland. ?
Dolores married Fred in 1964, moved to Northumberland in 1971, and they spent 54 wonderful years together.
She belonged to St. Monica Church in Sunbury and the Point Township Fire Company in Northumberland.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Dolores always had a meal for anyone who stopped at her house and was generous to anyone who visited, making sure they left with something in hand. She also loved going to the casinos with Fred and members of her family. ?
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Gloria Kropa and her husband Matt Roehr, of Milford; son, Scott Kropa and his wife Tina, of Stewartstown; daughter, Valerie Duff and her husband Brian, of Wellsboro; grandchildren, Colin Troup, Jeremy Kropa, Shiloh Duff, and Emily Duff; brothers, Joseph Chwastyk and companion Linda, Michael Chwastyk and wife Faith Pearlstein, Paul and wife, Dale Chwastyk, all of Harrisburg; sister, Rosalie Roote and Clifford Roote, of Nanticoke; aunt, Helen (Chwastyk) Tanski; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. ?
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Conklin; and her niece, Cathy Hager.
A visitiation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Monica Church, Sunbury, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11.
