Delphine L. Brown, 78 of Klingerstown, passed away on Dec. 9, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born June 7, 1939, in Rough & Ready, a daughter of the late Willard and Verna (Geist) Mattern.
Delphine graduated from Mahanoy Joint High School and was employed as a factory worker until her marriage to Harvey O. Brown on August 2, 1958. Harvey preceded her in death in 2011.
Delphine's married life was devoted to the family dairy farm and her and Harvey's three sons. Activities with 4-H and FFA, along with exhibiting and showing hogs, sheep and dairy cattle at the Gratz and Bloomsburg fairs and the Pennsylvania Farm Show were highlights of time spent with "the boys".
She also spent time employed at the former Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman, in the kitchen and as the activities director. After the sale of the dairy cattle, Delphine and Harvey enjoyed traveling and square dancing with a special group of friends who were know for having fun.
Delphine took great pride in her sewing abilities and was honored to have made wedding dresses for numerous relatives along with other apparel throughout the years. She was especially excited to open her own sewing and embroidery business in 1993. Working from home and traveling to area farmer's markets and craft shows to sell her goods was a true enjoyment for Delphine. She treasured the many special friendships made and camaraderie shared at the markets.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin and Darlene, Kyle and Lori, and Kurt, along with five grandchildren, Kimber, Dana, Kody, Keli and Kara, and one great-granddaughter, Kortlynn. She is also survived by one sister, Dawn Snook, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Jeremy Smeltz.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Leck Kill, followed by the funeral at 11. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 4330 Schwaben Creek Road, Leck Kill, PA 17836.
