David Stanley Swartz


David Stanley Swartz, 67, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on Thursday morning, August 10, 2017 at his home while surrounded by his family. Born September 26, 1949 in Lewisburg, PA, he was a son of the late M. Stanley and A. Miriam Ferster Swartz. Dave served honorably with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Houghton College and later attained his Masters Degree in Education from Shippensburg University. Mr. Swartz taught fifth grade at Stevens Elementary his entire thirty-two year career with the Chambersburg Area School District, serving as head teacher of the school his last eighteen years. He was an active member of the Chambersburg First Church of God where he sang in the choir, played baritone in the orchestra, and volunteered serving funeral meals. He also operated the camcorder at Penn Hall one Sunday of each month. He was a member of The Gideons International for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Lyter Swartz, two children - Matthew Swartz of Chambersburg and Angie Cales (husband Josh) of Hagerstown and his grandson Gavin Cales. He is also survived by three brothers - Daniel Swartz (wife Patricia), Philip Swartz (wife Carol), and Stephen Swartz, all of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews - Ryan, Jenna, Kristen, Jessica (husband Stuart), Justin (wife May), and Kendall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday in Richfield Community Cemetery, Richfield, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
