Daniel Lee Hoffman, 54, of Lacey, Wash., passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Providence Hospital in Olympia, Wash., with loved ones by his side.

He was born June 21, 1961, in Sunbury, Pa., a son of Diane Bartholomew Hoffman andthe late George Asher Hoffman.

He earned an associate degree in applied science accounting from Chicago City Wide College and a bachelor of science in business and management from the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Daniel served and retired from the Army as a First Sergeant. His service to the United States of America took him through Europe, Korea, Honduras, Thailand and across the U.S., finally settling near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Lacey, so he could continue serving soldiers and families. His achievements and decorations were numerous, but his list of friends and people who counted on his financial wisdom were more.

Dan was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Northumberland, Pa.

Dan loved traveling, cooking and gardening. He played racquetball, darts and chess and he gathered teammates who could bowl by his side. Dan loved to tell jokes and have fun with people. He also had an extraordinary gift with handling numbers and finances, which he used as a gift to serve others.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, James and John; one daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Patrick Martin; one son, Christopher Hoffman; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Hoffman Anderson in 2002.

Services were held at Fort Lewis Main Chapel on April 1. A memorial service will be held at St. John's at a later date.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
