Charles H. DeLong, 84, of Breon Road, Middleburg, passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at his home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Center Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Samuel and Viola (Hunt) DeLong. On July 26, 1958, he married the former Miriam Yvonne Houtz who preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2011.
Charles served in the Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956.
He had been employed at Chef Boyardee, Milton for 33 years, retiring in 1996, and had also farmed.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Penns Creek, the American Legion Post 945, and the Happy Hollow Hunting Camp.
Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and found special joy in traveling with his wife. In his later years, he enjoyed going to breakfast at Rayaudas in Beaver Springs with Bill, Linda, Randall and Faye. He was a master craftsman in woodworking and made many items for family members.
He is survived by five sons and their spouses, Kenneth and Deb DeLong, of Middleburg, Charles Jr. and Lorrie DeLong, of Winfield, Michael and Shawnna DeLong, James and Cheri DeLong, and Wayne and Heather DeLong, all of Middleburg; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale DeLong, of Lewisburg; and one sister, Shirley Boop, of New Berlin.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; and two brothers, Stanley and Ezra DeLong.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Independent Bible Church, Middle Road, Beavertown, followed by the funeral at 11, with Pastor Bob Klingerman officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Middlewest Veterans Honor Guard.
