Born Nov. 13, 1960, in Shamokin, Pa., she was the daughter of William Troxell, of Shamokin and the late Margaret Troxell. She was a 1978 graduate of Shamokin Area High School and a 1982 graduate of Messiah College.
Carol was an accomplished businesswoman who owned five businesses at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston. She inspired so many people with her entrepreneurial spirit and vision, leading with love and laughter. Carol gifted Boston by creating the Northeast's largest Christmas tree lighting and "Blink!" synchronized light and sound holiday show to kick off the season each year.
She was also the co-founder of the nonprofit organization Pitching in For Kids, that supports children throughout New England. As one friend described her, Carol was one of Boston's most prolific and understated philanthropists who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children.
She will be remembered by all of the lives she touched for her unending optimism, infectious laugh and generous heart. Carol spread laughter, love, and joy to everyone that knew her.
Besides her father, Carol is survived by her sister, Susan Wills and husband, Barry, of Sunbury; and her brother, Gary and wife Dawn, of Ephrata; her Maltipoo friend and companion, Lilly; an aunt and uncle and several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She is also survived by her friend and business partner, Sara Youngelson, of Framingham, who was like a sister to her and is considered part of the family.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 22 at the Farrow Funeral Home in Shamokin with the Rev. Daniel Verrengia, of Woburn, Mass. presiding. Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation from 11 a.m. to noon.
Burial will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held in Massachusetts at a later date. Details, when available, will be posted on www.pitchinginforkids.org.
