Carlyle W. Westlund, 88, of Middleburg, died peacefully on his 13th anniversary to his wife, Marlene, on Sunday, July 23, 2017.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on July 22, 1929, a son of Adrian Westlund Sr. and Amanda (Koshnick) Westlund.
Carlyle "Kiyi" was an enlisted member of the Navy with honorable discharge from 1949 to 1952, assigned to USS Whitely, AKA 91 and traveled across the arctic circle on his 21st birthday.
Kiyi was a master's level geologist, working with the State Game Commission and a fisherman enthusiast. He taught Geology at Penn State University. He supported and was a consultant for geo thermal heat pumps and a member of the Trout Unlimited Organization.
He owned a farm with his now deceased wife Gloria Sue (Millhollan) Westlund, and had raised a pick-your-own blueberry farm and daylily farm. He wrote political stories for the Snyder County paper and completed a book in 2015.
His current wife, Marlene Dolores (Jorgenson) Westlund passed on July 1, 2017 in her home and had a remembrance celebration on July 22, 2017.
He is survived by his brother, Richard, of Collins, N.Y.; daughter, Leslie, of San Diego, Calif., and adopted daughter from Russia, Amanda, of Dallastown; stepdaughters, Kristene, of Philadelphia, and Kolene, of New Cumberland; stepsons, Danny, of Index, Wash., and Scott, of El Paso, Texas; and grandson, Chawne, of Santa Monica. Calif.
Kiyi was predeceased by a brother, Adrian Jr.; sisters, Elaine, Margaret, and Mary; and stepson, Jon.
A celebration of life will be held August 19, 2017.
Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
