Betty J. Nevel, 86, of South Williamsport, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at UPMC Susquehanna-Williamsport.
She was born July 28, 1931, in Williamsport, a daughter of the late Clifford E. and Ruth D. (Sahm) Long. She was married for 67 years to Geoffrey "Jeff" Nevel
Betty was a homemaker.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Williamsport Hospital.
Betty enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, crocheting, reading, and going for rides to get ice cream.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children and their spouses, Sharon and Terry Hackenburg, of Winfield, Richard and Helen Marie Nevel, of Curwensville, and Beth and Jerry Rees, of Woodland; seven grandchildren, Steve, Craig and Lynda Thomas, Eric Nevel, Sandra Bryant, Andrew Maddas and Evan Rees; and nine great-grandchildren, Drew, Alan, Jackson, Briele, Derek, Cree, Piper, Shelby, and Megan.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald and Jack Long, Margaret Kimble, Alta English, Beverly Barton and Nancy Kitchen.
A funeral service to honor the life of Betty will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with Pastor Eleanor Siegrist officiating. A visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. will be held prior to the service.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
