Bethany Joy Zechman

Events

On April 7, 2019, Bethany Joy (Shoreman) Zechman, of Mifflinburg, passed away at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital where she was awaiting a lung transplant after experiencing acute lung failure.

Bethany had a personality that could fill the room, a beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and a unique sense of humor. She was, and is, dearly loved and will be missed by all of us.

A Bicentennial baby, Bethany and Kenny would have celebrated 20 years of marriage in October. They have three children, Emma, Kyra and Owen. Neil and Alice Shoreman are her parents and her sisters are Nichelle Shoreman Stitt (John Stitt), Christa Shoreman (Susan Paul) and Cara Leitzel (Seth Leitzel). Kenny's parents are Kenneth and Wendy Zechman, his grandmother is Mary Katherine Ruhl, and his grandparents are Dale and Marie Zechman. His sisters are Kathy Marie Keifer, Lisa Mae Heater, and Emily Grace DiTomo.

A Mifflinburg High School and Millersville University graduate, Bethany worked several jobs in the criminal justice field. A cyber school teacher for her youngest two children, she was also an avid stage, dance, and soccer mom. A member of the staff at Carriage Corner, she was a waitress and most recently a hostess.

Bethany spent hours crafting detailed needlepoint and beautiful scrapbooks-and reading books. She loved many types of music and traveling to New York to see musicals on Broadway. Family was very important to Bethany. From Chilly Willy's and movie night to sit-down family dinners. She, Kenny and the kids made many wonderful memories during their trips to the beach in Chincoteague, Va.

The Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene,12 Market Street, Mifflinburg, will host the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene.
She will be buried after the funeral in Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church. After the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather at The Carriage Corner Restaurant, 257 E. Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.

We would like to thank friends and family near and far for their support and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethany Zechman Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Mifflinburg Bank & Trust. Finding a donor match was difficult due to Bethany's genetics. Please consider learning more about organ donation at www.donatelife.net.

Arrangements are by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

Bethany was larger than life itself! She was filled with joy and exuberance! She had a commanding presence and knew how to lighten up a room. I first met Bethany through scrapbooking at Wesley Forest, she was a stickler to get her pages "just right",often getting only 2 or 3 pages done at a retreat! She was a great mom and a wonderful friend! Your memory will live on in my heart as I am truly blessed for having known you!!! (and your family)!

I had the awesome privilege of teaching Bethany in Sunday School. What a trip! She was a priceless treasure with a most bubbly personality. She certainly brightened up a room when she entered with her quirky humor. Loved that girl so much!! She will be sorely missed! Praying for the family as you walk through this valley of painful grief, that you will experience God's presence, comfort, strength, and peace.

To the family of Bethany, my prayers are filled with wishes for peace and comfort for you all during this hard time. I’m so sorry that you have to go through this. I want to share a favorite memory I have of her. I’ll never forget the day our junior year at the beginning of Economics class, a class we both hated, when out of nowhere she said to me, “let’s skip class, he’d never know we left”. Of course we didn’t do that but we both thought about it. She was a great person so full of love and life and I know she will be missed by so many. Praying for you all.

Though I didn't know Bethany that well I do remember her friendly nature and gift of gab as we would wait for our daughters to finish dance class at Miss Alicia's. She was always positive and easy to talk to.....Prayers and Blessings to her family and many friends.

My connection with Bethany is a distant one. We share a great grandmother, Louisa Scott, mother of Phyllis Shoreman, who was mother of Neil Shoreman, Bethany's father. I can only imagine your pain.. Sending love from all the extended family in the UK. May God be with you all at this difficult time......
