Bertha Louise Melhorn


Bertha Louise (Altland) Melhorn, 88, went to be with Jesus on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at noon at her home near Middleburg.
She was born in Fairview Township, York County on April 24, 1930, to Wilmer and Margaret (Shindel) Altland.

On Oct. 7, 1950, Bertha married Kenneth Melhorn who survives. They have enjoyed sweet companionship with each other for 68 years. Bertha has stood by Kenneth as he pastored churches in the Brethren in Christ, Evangelical Brethren and Evangelical Methodist denominations.
Bertha was a member of the Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church.

She is survived by eight children, four sons and four daughters, Julia (Frank) Cook of Beaver Springs, Marvin (Lucille) Melhorn of Halifax, Anita (John) Bowman of Middleburg, Verlyn (Elizabeth) Melhorn of Selinsgrove, Darla (James) Byler of Belleville, Galen Melhorn of Milton, Cynthia (Timothy) Maneval of Middleburg, and Elvin Melhorn of Middleburg; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Cordilla Beinhower; one niece; one granddaughter-in-law; and one great- grandson.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, followed by the funeral at 11, at Beavertown God's Missionary Church, 1693 Creek Road, Middleburg, with the Rev. Brent Lenhart and the Rev. James Richards officiating.
Burial will be in the Richfield Evangelical Methodist Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
