Bernard John Dalton Jr.

Bernard John "Bernie" Dalton Jr., 49, Woodside, Calif., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 13, 1969, and grew up in Danville, Pa.

Bernie was a 1988 graduate of Danville High School, where he wrestled and played soccier. He also wrestled and played soccer for two years at Suny Delhi, N.Y. He then attended Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

In 1996, Bernie's mother, Lois (McCormick) Dalton, passed away after a 2½-year battle with breast cancer, which had a profound impact on the rest of Bernie's life. He then moved to Santa Cruz, Calif.

Bernie worked in construction and for Scuba Pool Repair before establishing his own company, Dalton Pool Repair.
He was an avid surfer and passionate about playing the guitar. He was a devoted and dedicated father to his daughter, Nicole.
Bernie began experiencing symptoms, including changes in his voice and then lost his ability to speak in September of 2016. He received the devastating diagnosis of Bulbar onset ALS in April, 2017. On the heels of the terminal diagnosis and no longer able to work, speak, or play guitar, Bernie asked his voice teacher, Essence Goldman, to help him to create an album of his songs. A Go Fund Me campaign was launched and an outpouring of support came from over 11 countries and all 50 states which enabled him to fulfill his musical dream. The band "Bernie and the Believers" was formed which resulted in the album "Connection." This album is a collection of songs portraying Bernie's advice for living with an emphasis on strong family values, dedicated to his daughter, Nicole, and her future children.

Bernie is survived by his daughter, Nicole; stepson, Alex Ewan; his father, Bernard Dalton Sr., (Carole); two sisters, Lena (Michael) Sutcliffe, and Lisa (Pierce) Wilson; two nephews, Brent Wilson and Kyle Sutcliffe; two nieces, Mattie Burnett and Kathryn Sutcliffe; and his west coast family, Tim, Shannon, Logan, and Aidan Noll.

A private gathering of Bernie's family and friends will be held in Danville, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bernie's daughter, Nicole Dalton, at Bank of America account number 3810 5264 1644.
