Beatrice's Story

Beatrice I. Kissinger, 98, of University Avenue, Selinsgrove, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 27, 1919, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, a daughter of the late Wesley and Bessie (Hubert) Hoover. In 1935, she married Robert P. Kissinger who preceded her in death in 1982.

Beatrice attended Freeburg High School.
She had been employed as the head cook for the Selinsgrove School District elementary, middle and high schools and had also worked part time at the Mary Ann Donut Shop in Shamokin Dam.
She was an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove where she had served on various groups including the communion and funeral committee, and a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 2244, Selinsgrove.
In her spare time, Beatrice enjoyed getting together with the Pennsylvania School Retirees group. She also enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn and being outdoors. She loved fishing trips to Canada and also spending time at Hills Creek Lake. She was an avid Penn State fan and followed Selinsgrove school sports, attending her families sporting events.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Judy Kissinger, of Selinsgrove; one daughter, Trudy Irwin, of Selinsgrove; five grandchildren, Koren Plata, Tracy Mull, Krista Lutz, Tammie Irwin and Kellee Kissinger; five great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Annie Hoover; one brother; and one sister.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11a.m. Saturday at Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Robert P. Doll officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Beatrice's memory may be made to Sharon Lutheran Church, 120 S. Market St., Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
