Barbara's Story

Barbara A. Roush, 84, an amazing wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, of Hughesville, died Friday, March 2, 2018, at Williamsport Regional Medical Center, after a brief challenging illness.

Born Jan. 11, 1934, in Danville, she was a daughter of the late J. Lester and Hazel M. (Hower) Campbell. She was married to the late Kenneth H. Roush, who preceded her in death on May 18, 1995.

Barbara was a very active woman in her community, as a leader of the Girl Scouts, a Cub Scout den leader, the PTA, and the 4-H. She was also a business woman, and was a former co-owner of the Ground Chuck, Hughesville, and her own catering service. She was also previously employed as Teacher's Aide at Danville Area School District, and worked as a medical records coordinator for Geisinger Medical Center. She volunteered at both Hughesville and Riverside fire departments and Family Promise. She was very active in her church, the former Christ United Methodist Church, now The Beacon, a Methodist Church, Hughesville, where she was a board member and active volunteer. Barbara loved helping neighbors, and helping those in need. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing school bags for those in need and Christmas cantata costumes for her church. Above all Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and loved ones. Her example of being a servant to those around her have encouraged others to reach out in their worlds. Many remember her beautiful smile, peaceful heart and warm embrace.

She is survived by two sons, John E. (Naomi) Roush, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kenneth E. (Diane) Roush, of Williamsport; three daughters, Deborah A. (Michael) Reich, of Tucson, Ariz., Sally Diane (Michael Sr.) O'Shea, of Springfield, and Brenda L. (Scott) Sutherland, of North Reading, Mass.; two sisters, Janet M. Campbell, of Danville, and Nancy E. Wiand, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Marvin W. Campbell, of Sunbury, and Wayne E. Campbell, of Long Pond; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving in-laws.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Bernice Campbell, and her daughter-in-law, Diane R. (Bassett) Roush.
