Alfred's Story

Alfred B. "Barney" Price, 93, of New Columbia, passed away on Feb. 28, 2017, at his home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Blundale, Ga., a son of the late Lee Roy and Myrtle (Thompson) Price. On March 23, 1946, he married the former Flora Best who survives.

Barney graduated from Dublin High School in Georgia and attended Middle Georgia College and Duke University. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II with the 4th Army, 26th Headquarters, Special Troops.
Along with his wife, he was the owner of Best Furniture in Milton until they sold it in 1985.
He was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Milton, where he served on the board. Barney was the last founding member of the Broadway Buglers in Milton. He was a member of the Williamsport Bridge Club and the Milton Lions Club, where he was a past president. He served on the White Deer Planning Commission for many years.
Barney enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and playing cards. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Merrillyn Lee Seckinger, of Allentown; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Elisabeth Price, of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Beeman Price, of Dudley, Ga.; one sister, Clara Neele Gray, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Peter, Alexander, Sarah, Argenta, and Rachel; and four great-grandchildren, Camilla, Amanda, Thomas, and Kylie.

Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 107 S. Front St., Milton, followed by a memorial service at 11, with Pastor Damien Brooks officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
